Neither side went home happy last night after the Cache County council voted to allow the Uinta Academy to house eight girls with mental health disabilities at a group home in Mount Sterling. The vote was six-to-one with councilmember Jon White voting against it and Craig Buttars absent from the meeting.Neighbors who live less than a mile from the site have expressed concerns about property devaluation, increased traffic and a feeling that the facility would not fit in with the character of the neighborhood. Although the law allows for such facilities, approval from county officials is needed if there are more than four clients in the facility. Uinta Academy had asked to house 12 girls in the facility, but the council opted to go with the compromise number of eight. Now, both sides have said they may file a lawsuit over the decision.
