A large turnout is expected to attend the Cache County Republican Party’s County Convention on Friday, April 30 starting at 6 p.m. at the Mount Logan Middle School. Party Chairman David James says all candidates running for office that affect Cache County have been invited to attend. James says delegates to the convention will be voting in three different races. “The county convention will only vote once because each one of the contested races there are only two candidates. With only two candidates they have one shot. If you get over 70% then you’re the nominee. If you don’t get over 70% it goes to a primary.” Two of the three intra-party races are for state legislature: District 3 Representative Jack Draxler and his challenger Elaine Nelson; and, District 5 Representative Curt Webb and his challenger Chuck Bateman. The other race is between Cache County Recorder Michael Gleed and his Republican challenger Stanley Palmer. James says the District 4 legislative race will be voted on at the State Republican Convention because the district includes more than one county. That race features Teresa Theurer and David Butterfield.
