LOGAN, Utah (AP) – The number of service calls performed by Utah State University police has steadily increased over the past six years. The Department of Public Safety’s 2009 annual report says calls for police service has climbed from more than 2,700 in 2004 to more than 3,600 last year. Calls for police service including motorist assists, personal escorts and fingerprint processing. During 2009, officers processed 46 reports of bicycle theft, 84 cases of theft and 10 fraud investigations – up from one fraud case each year in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Police Capt. Steve Milne attributes the hike to stolen credit cards and fraudulent use of meal plan cards by students.
