Logan man charged with child abuse

31-year old James O. Ray of Logan is in the Cache County Jail facing a child abuse charge. Logan Police Assistant Chief Jeff Curtis says the charge stems from an incident in the early morning hours of April 14th, when Ray allegedly repeatedly hit a 19-month old female child. Police were called to the Logan Regional Hospital emergency room on a possible child abuse case. Officers responded and found the toddler had bruising in the abdominal area and on her neck, swollen lips and a laceration. The child’s mother stated she was awoken by Ray, who is her fiancé, who said it appeared the child had fallen out of her crib. Curtis says the emergency room physician felt the injuries were more serious than such a fall would cause. The toddler was transported by helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake, suffering liver and other internal injuries. Following several interviews Curtis says investigators felt there was enough evidence to charge Ray with 2nd Degree Felony Child Abuse.
