A local straw poll shows Utah attorney Mike Lee to be the most popular Republican candidate for U.S. Senate. Lee is one of seven challengers to incumbent Senator Bob Bennett, who was unable to be in Logan Friday for the Cache County Republican convention.Bennett’s challengers debated on the Utah State University campus Friday afternoon after which a poll was conducted. Lee came out on top with 43.5 percent. On KVNU’s For the People program Friday, Lee was asked if he supports Congressman Ron Paul’s proposal to audit the Federal Reserve. His answer was, “absolutely.””It’s long overdue,” Lee continued. “We need to have it. The Federal Reserve is a private, for-profit corporation to which Congress has granted a significant amount of policy-making authority for the federal government.”And yet, unlike any other policy-making federal authority, it is not subject to any review by any court, by any executive branch agency, by any congressional oversight committee. It just does its thing and everybody else is just expected to salute and not ask questions.”The straw poll showed Tim Bridgewater with 20.5 percent of the vote, Bob Bennett and Cherilyn Eager each with 15.3 percent, Jeremy Friedbaum 2 percent and Leonard Fabiano 2 percent.
