Logan City to consider anti-discrimination ordinance for gays

Should Logan City enact a law banning discrimination against gay people? That issue will be up for discussion at Tuesday’s meeting of the Logan Municipal Council. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and the proposed ordinance will come up during a workshop session at approximately 6:15 p.m. Councilmember Herm Olsen will introduce the proposed ordinance which would be similar to one recently enacted by Salt Lake City. The request for such an ordinance came from the local chapter of Mormons for Equality and Justice. A recent Salt Lake Tribune poll showed that 66 percent of Utah residents support statewide protection for laws banning discrimination against gay people. The proposed laws to be discussed Tuesday deal with housing and employment.
