Bodybuilding competition coming to Cache Valley

A “natural” bodybuilding competition in late-May in Logan is open to all athletes as long as they have been free of any illegal substances for at least seven years. This 2010 NGA Mountain States Natural Bodybuilding event is a figure and bikini championships pro qualifier. James Purtell is organizing the event at Mt. Logan Middle School May 22 at 7 p.m. NGA is the National Gym Organization, the sanctioning group. “It is a natural event,” said Purtell, “all of these athletes have been polygraphed to determine if they have been seven years drug free. They are not supposed to have have taken any growth hormones, steroids, any kind of diuretics or any other illegal drugs or substances which are banned by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).” Purtell said these athletes through their natural training methods are able to add quite a lot of size. “Those attending this event will be surprised what these athletes can do with their bodies without the drugs. They are judged on their muscularity, their symmetry and also vascularity, which is the definition of the muscle through the skin. “It’s open to anybody who wants to step on stage and show all their hard work.” Purtell said because this is a qualifying event athletes can earn a pro card at the competition. “They can then begin competing at the pro level,” said Purtell, “and at that level athletes are able to win prizes in the form of cash.” Purtell said competition entry information is available online at ptutah95@aol.com with registration in any of several classes, starting at the novice competition level, which would include athletes in their first competition.
