Lonnie Loveday to be honored as part of Smithfield Health Days

Smithfield Health Days continues and Wednesday’s major event is to honor a longtime community leader and former Smithfield Mayor Lonnie Loveday. Current Mayor Darrell Simmons says Loveday will receive a special award during a program that starts at 5:30 p.m. at Summit Park. Mayor Simmons says Loveday was involved for many years in recreation activities that helped young people become active and stay active in programs that promote health and keep the youth, both male and female, involved. “We’ve since recognized him with an award in naming one of the little league fields after Lonnie, the Lonnie Loveday Field,” Simmons says. ” We’re putting together a nice monument, a plaque and a stone out there to recognize Lonnie.” The mayor says a highlight of this year’s Health Days celebration comes Thursday when Craig Jessop and the American Festival Chorus presents a concert at the Sky View High School Auditorium. The concert is a fundraiser for the Health Days Scholarship program and tickets are on sale at Lee’s Marketplace in Smithfield and Logan for $10. The cost is $15 at the door.
