Commencement ceremonies get underway Thursday

Actor, community activist and philanthropist Danny Glover will address Utah State University undergraduate students during USU’s 123rd graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 8 in the Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum. The hooding ceremony for graduate students is Friday, May 7 at the same place. Glover will join a group of four other prominent individuals receiving honorary doctorates during the 9:30 a.m. Saturday event. Others receiving honors are public radio pioneer Donald R. Quayle, business leader and public servant Scott R. Simplot, psychologist, community volunteer and environmental activist Dr. Paula Swaner, and longtime Utah media executive Dominic A. Welch. A new event, Senior Celebration 2010, takes place Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center. It is a free event for graduating seniors and $5 for guests. There will be refreshments, giveaways and entertainment. Tickets may be picked up in the David B. Haight Alumni Center.
