Aggie track and field completes regular-season Wednesday in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah — Utah State track and field had a strong showing Wednesday at the Wildcat Twilight Invitational including capturing four event titles by four juniors. This was USU’s final regular-season action and last tune-up for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, next Wednesday through Saturday, May 12-15, at Ruston, La. “This was a good tune-up for next week,” veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel said. “We had some solid marks today. With the weekend off, we can fine tune some little things in practice, but mainly rest up for the conference meet.” Winning titles for the Aggies Wednesday was junior Shannon Prince (47.06m, 154-05) in the women’s discus, junior Nick Bolinder, (15:10.90) in the 5,000m, junior Clint Silcock (2.16m, 7-01.00) in the high jump and junior Alex DuPlesis, (54.70m, 179-05.50) in the javelin. USU collected a total of 14 top-three finishes in Ogden. Doing well on the women’s side was freshman Hollie Bosworth finished third in the 400m clocking at 59.28. Fellow freshman Amber Thompson tabbed second in the pole vault clearing 3.20m (10-06.00). Sophomore Spela Hus collected a second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.17m (46-05.75). USU women’s 4x100m relay team collected third with a time of 47.15. On the men’s side, senior Casey Parker was second in the high jump behind Silcock, clearing 2.01m (6-07.25), while sophomore Jaymin Vickars was second in the javelin behind DuPlesis with a mark of 54.33m (178-03.00). Juniors Hunter Nelson and Todd Griffith were second and third in the 1,500m with times of 4:05.76 and 4:12.22, respectively, while sophomore Nate Lloyd was second in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking a 10:39.31 time. Junior Eric Larson was third in the 800m in 1:57.59. Senior Nick Karren and junior Armahd Lewis were both third in the 100m (11.10) and 200m (22.35), respectively. Sophomores Daniel Cruz and Joe Canavan were also both third, with Cruz throwing the discus 48.07m (157-08.50), while Canavan posted a mark of 16.55m (54-03.50) in the shout put. The Aggies will take the weekend off to prepare for the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Wednesday through Saturday, May 12-15 in Ruston, La.
