Public shooting range hosting open house

You can see the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range and Hunter Education Facility on Valley View Highway at a Saturday (May 8) open house. Manager Ja Eggett said the facility will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Saturday we are offering free admissions to our rifle and pistol and archery ranges,” said Eggett. “We will have people at each of those ranges to help facilitate shooting if that’s something you’ve never done before.” He said manufacturer’s reps will be on hand with guns to demo. “That will be a good chance for even experienced shooters to try out some new guns.” Eggett said a reduced rate for rounds of shotgun for trap and skeet will be available. “If you have never shot a shotgun before we will have folks there to help you and give you a chance to try that out.” Eggett said the shotgun facility includes trap and skeet fields and a 5-stand sporting clay course. There is an indoor 20-yard archery range as well as outdoor archery course. There is also a 50-foot pistol range outdoors, plus a 25 and 50-yard outdoor rifle-pistol range and then a long rifle range that is 100, 200 or 300 yards, all outdoors. There is also an indoor .22 range. Eggett said the Cache Valley facility is open all year long. “All of our rifle and pistol ranges have covered shooting facilities so you shoot from a covered position, even outside. Winter is actually a busy time for us.” Hunter Education classes are taught virtually every month. Eggett emphasizes the range is not a private facility. “It’s actually a Division of Wildlife Resources-run facility,” he said. “It is a public shooting range and the only fees are daily admission fees.” Admission normally costs $4 for adults and $2 for youth 15 and younger (for archery, rifle and pistol ranges) while normal trap and skeet is $5 a round, which includes 25 clay targets, and a sporting clays course is normally $7 a round. Reservations are not required but facility management asks those bringing large groups call ahead (435) 753-4600.
