Construction will be starting soon on an expansion of the Preston County Senior Center. The expansion will be made possible in part due to a $150,000 grant that the board applied for several months ago with the help of the Southeastern Idaho Council of Governments. The grant is from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Board Chair Gail Albiston says work on the center could start as early as June and be finished by September. The money will be used to extend the existing building 30 feet to the north with a new pitched roof over the entire structure. Albiston says the roof over the center’s dining and kitchen area has been a source of trouble for several months with numerous leaks. The expansion will add needed space to the dining hall, which officials say is too small. It also will allow for a fireplace to be added on the north end and a patio on the south end of the building.
