Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater to face off in GOP Senate primary

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Attorney Mike Lee and businessman Tim Bridgewater will face each other in a June 22 primary for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination.U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett of Utah lost his bid to serve a fourth term Saturday after failing to advance past the second round of voting at the GOP state convention.Bennett was a distant third in the voting among roughly 3,400 delegates. He garnered just under 27 percent of the vote. Bridgewater had 37 percent and Lee 36 percent.In the third round, neither Lee nor Bridgewater won the 60 percent necessary to avoid a primary. Bridgewater finished with more than 57 percent while Lee garnered nearly 43 percent.Bennett is the first incumbent to lose his seat in Washington this year, the victim of a conservative movement angered by rising taxes and the growth of government.
