Bear River woman killed in accident with driver’s ed student

A woman from Bear River City died in a car accident Tuesday. The 77-year old woman was driving a Buick north on State Road 13 crossing the Elwood overpass. Her vehicle struck a driver’s education vehicle from Box Elder School District that was attempting to make a left turn just before 5 p.m. Utah Highway Patrol troopers report that the school vehicle, a Chevy Impala, had exited I-15 northbound and went into the intersection to make a left turn onto State Road 13 when the Buick hit the driver side door. Trooper Cameron Roden says it is believed that the 15-year old student driver from either Box Elder or Bear River High School was at a stop sign and pulled out in front of the Buick which had the right of way. The driver of the Buick, Virginia Goodrich, was unresponsive and transported to Bear River Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a seat belt. The three occupants of the Impala who were wearing seat belts were transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. Troopers say it appears Goodrich was going the speed limit at the time of the crash.
