“Release a Balloon for a Loved One” is a Memorial Day event scheduled for the east side of the Logan Cemetery, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. Mikell Brown is the event coordinator. “I lost my sister six years ago,” said Brown. “All I have of her are memories and those memories have now become treasures to me and my family and I find no greater joy than sitting around the kitchen table and talking about memories of my sister. “And what better way to honor people we loved and have lost than by sharing a memory on Memorial Day. We will be at the cemetery just east of Baby Land starting at nine o’clock in the morning.” Brown invites everyone to stop by Monday during their visit to the cemetery to write the name of a loved one on a balloon, along with a memory. “At one o’clock we will be releasing all the balloons. Hopefully we can get a lot of people out and it can be just a terrific sight.” She said she has heard of similar events elsewhere in Utah, especially in Salt Lake City where it is a large, yearly gathering. “This is the first time we have done this,” she said. “If we can make this an annual thing and as big as it is down there, that would be great.” Brown said the helium and balloons have been donated, there is no charge to the public.
