Scenes of Memorial Day 2010

Millions of people around the country took time on Monday, May 31 to recognize and honor those servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defending America’s freedom. Many others gathered at cemeteries to remember other loved ones who have passed on. A new tradition started this year at the Logan Cemetery to remember loved ones in a different way. “Release a Balloon for a Loved One” was coordinated by Mikell Brown. People were encouraged to write the name of a loved one on a balloon, along with a memory, and then at 1 p.m. those balloons were released to carry those messages to the heavens. Brown addressed the dozens of people who were in attendance for the release and shortly after 1 p.m. hundreds of balloons climbed toward the sun. The accompanying photo gallery is a collection of images from the balloon release and other sights at the Logan Cemetery and surrounding areas.
