Cache County Council discusses rezoning land near Mt. Pisgah for mining

At the Cache County Council meeting Tuesday, councilmembers discussed rezoning 640 acres of land near Mt. Pisgah two miles north of Mantua so it could be mined five acres at a time. The roads to this site are basically nonexistent and would need major improvements to become usable, said Josh Runhaar, director of Development Services for Cache County. The site will be accessed by Mt. Pisgah Road and a connection to Highway 89-91. Runhaar said one concern is making sure the highway access point is safe. Mining in the area would not be visible to neighboring towns, and Runhaar said the site is “far removed from single family homes, far removed from just about anything else.”The Council postponed the issue to a further meeting until other issues are discussed such as greenbelt laws.-
