Utah State’s Silcock Earns All-American Honors In High Jump Friday At NCAA Track And Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Utah State track and field junior Clint Silcock earned All-American honors in the high jump Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., hosted by the University of Oregon. Silcock finished ninth overall with a height of 2.17m (7-01.50), but was among the top eight American finishers, as national champion Derek Drouin of Indiana is from Canada and second-place finisher Manjula Kumara Wijesekar of USC is from Sri Lanka. Silcock cleared the same height as sixth-place finisher Erik Kynard of Kansas State along with Darrell Roddick of Texas Tech and Nick Ross of Arizona, who both tied for seventh, but Silcock had more misses. However, Silcock had fewer misses at the height than 10th-place finisher Jordan Bishop of Oregon State. Silcock adds an outdoor All-American honor to the indoor All-America accolade he earned at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships. “It’s a great honor to be an All-American, and to earn it for the second time is even better,” Silcock said. “I’ve would have liked to have done better, even place or get a medal, but there’s always next year for that. It’s really rewarding for all the hard work I put in this year. There was some tough competition, but to come here and place in the top nine is quite an honor.” The 2.17m height is tied for Silcock’s second-best mark of the season and tied for the third-best height of his career. Silcock’s career-best mark is 2.26m (7-05.00), which he did in winning the USU Mark Faldmo Invitational on April 24 and is the No. 2 mark on USU’s Top 10 high jump list. “Clint has been very consistent all year, and he did a great job again today,” veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel said. “It’s exciting for him to earn All-American honors. I’m very proud of him.” Silcock is USU’s second high jump All-America, joining Dave Hoffman in 2001. Silcock is the 23rd different USU male All-America, and he is the 13th Aggie to earn multiple All-American honors. Overall, Silcock’s honor is the 52nd All-American accolade for a Utah State male track and field athlete.
