Nickel, former Logan Mayor, celebrates 96th birthday

Because he was new to the area, former Logan Mayor Walter Nickel vowed to knock on every door in his effort to get elected to the office. He wore out several pair of shoes but the effort paid off and he served as Logan Mayor from 1978 to 1982.Nickel celebrated his 96th birthday on Sunday in Salt Lake City and his family came from all parts of the country for the occasion. After moving to Logan from Wisconsin, Nickel founded the Palatial Living Mobile Home Subdivision and he spent many years there.Nickel still works on projects around Palatial Living and also spends some time restoring cars. Both his first wife Maxine and his second wife Beverly have passed away. He served only one term as mayor after which he and his wife Maxine served an mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico.
