Republican U.S. Senator Bob Bennett says he is endorsing former GOP rival Tim Bridgewater as his replacement. Bridgewater and attorney Mike Lee will face off in the June 22 primary to replace Bennett who was knocked off the ballot at the state Republican convention. Bridgewater says he’s pleased to get the support of Bennett and he called the senator “a good man” on KVNU’s Crosstalk Show Friday. “I believe that the signal that voters are sending in Utah is that we have to take responsibility,” Bridgewater continued. “We have to move towards self-reliance, personal responsibility. We need a new approach to the spending, which is out of control and needs to be reined in dramatically. We are sending in new leaders across the country to try and tackle the tough issues that are being ignored today in Washington.” Bennett has said that Bridgewater personally sought his endorsement while Mike Lee did not.
