Cool Spring affecting Aquatic Center

It’s official: nature has hindered a favorite summer pastime. With temperatures only in the 70s and scattered rain showers nearly everyday, the weather has been felt at the Logan Aquatic Center. The pool, which usually opens its gates on Memorial Day, pushed back this year’s opening until June 5 in hopes to avoid continued bad weather. They’ve had no such luck.Mark Johnson, Logan Aquatic Center Supervisor, laments the loss of revenue and attendance that has been caused by the less than ideal conditions.”We’ve actually been closed for a few days because of the weather,” Johnson says. “We set a temperature limit of around 60 degrees and if we’re not gonna get above that, we don’t even open. And of them we’ve had around six days we haven’t even opened since the first of the month .” In addition to the days they don’t open, there have been three days they have closed early due to thunderstorms. Johnson says they are very careful when it comes to this and they vacate the pool at the first signs of lightening.Fortunately, there is a silver lining to this rain cloud. Summer-like conditions are expected in the forecast and stay in the valley with great enthusiasm from all sun bathers and swimmers alike.
