The Utah Festival Opera Company opens its 17th season July 7 on the stage of the Ellen Eccles Theater in downtown Logan. UFOC founder and General Director Michael Ballam says he’s excited about the two operas and two musicals that will be performed: The Barber of Seville, La Traviata, Guys and Dolls and The Sound of Music.Ballam says the opening night will not feature an opera or a musical but rather what he calls “The Four Pianists.’On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Monday, Ballam said four world class pianists will be on stage, including Ben Salisbury, a native of Newton, Steve Carey, K. Bruce Ford and Dallas Heaton.”Per capita, Cache County has more pianos per household than anywhere in the entire United States,” Ballam claimed. “I think it’s because our culture supports that. “Even some of the pioneers brought pianos. We have one at Dansante that came across the plains in a wagon, a grand piano, in a wagon in 1847 which was a tremendous sacrifice.”The concert featuring the UFOC’s four pianists will be presented that evening only.
