James: entitlements need to be reformed carefully

House Minority Leader John Boehner charged Wednesday that the Democratic party is out of touch with the American people. Boehner defended his critique of the financial regulatory reform bill as excessive regulation. On Social Security, Boehner said he would like to see the age raised from 67 to 70. Cache County Republican Party Chairman David James says he worries about people who have been paying into the system for 20, 30 or 40 years. “There are ways we can reform entitlements,” James says, “and we need to reform entitlements without just going in and saying ‘uh, we’ve been lying to you all these years. We changed our minds. You know, we never really said 100% that this is the way it’s going to be.’ “But reform needs to happen and if one of those is changing the age by increasing lifespans for future generations, yeah, I think that makes sense to me.” James says he agrees with Boehner and other Republican leaders who feel the Obama health care bill fails the country.
