Local artist remembers Friberg’s legacy

A Utah artist best known for his painting of George Washington in prayer at Valley Forge has died. Arnold Friberg died at the age of 96 at a Salt Lake-area rehabilitation center following hip replacement surgery. Well-known local artist Larry Winborg says the best word to describe Friberg’s work is “wonderful.” He says Friberg did some very significant paintings on the Book of Mormon. “He also painted a lot of mounted police subjects and did some great work there,” Winborg says. “He did some very significant historical pieces. “He’s well-known in the LDS community for his Book of Mormon subjects that have really illustrated the Book of Mormon for, I don’t know, maybe 40 or 50 years or so. He is definitely going to be missed.” Winborg says he believes Friberg is already on the “other side” doing more great work.
