Logan man injured in Hyrum Reservoir boating accident

A 30-year-old Logan man was injured in a boating accident at Hyrum State Park Sunday afternoon. The man, whose identity was unavailable Sunday evening, was riding on an inflatable tube being towed by a ski boat when he fell off the tube. When the boat spun around to pick the man back up, the man’s long pants reportedly got sucked into the propeller of the boat, which was still rotating according to Jeremy Shaw, manager of Hyrum State Park.”He suffered some injuries to his legs,” Shaw said, noting the man was taken to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance. “I don’t know how extensive those injuries are yet.”The incident happened around 5 p.m., Shaw said. Parks officials were joined by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue and local EMS crews in rescuing the man.Shaw said the incident serves as a reminded of the necessity to practice proper boating safety techniques when on the water.”the boat should always be in neutral position when you do that type of maneuver,” Shaw said. “If that boat is not neutral, then that prop is spinning. The combination of that with his long pants that he had on is what wrapped him up.”
