Draxler believes Utah is close to drafting Arizona-type immigration bill

Many believe Utah will be the next state to adopt Arizona’s strict immigration law and Republican State Representative Steven Sandstrom has said he is interested in sponsoring an Arizona-type law.Utah Governor Gary Herbert has said he expects to sign some form of immigration legislation and he is meeting with those on all sides of the debate.State Rep. Jack Draxler, R-District 3, says he is glad the governor is doing that and he is anxious to hear what comes out of those meetings.”There is a lot of public interest in immigration, obviously, and I have received a lot of feedback from my constituents regarding the Arizona law,” Draxler says. “It has been overwhelming in favor of it. “I think we need to be careful and wise in how we approach it.”Draxler says he’s not surprised the Obama administration filed a lawsuit against Arizona saying the state’s immigration bill usurps federal authority. The Republican lawmaker says the federal government should have done what it was supposed to do regarding immigration.
