The Utah Department of Transportation says work will start Monday on installation of a new traffic signal at approximately 100 West and US-Highway 89-91 in south Logan. UDOT Region 1 Traffic Engineer Darin Duersch says this intersection has been the scene of several accidents in the past two years as commercial development has intensified in this area. Duersch says UDOT is pleased that all the details have been worked out to allow this signal installation to finally move forward. He says it is believed that this will improve he ability of motorists to safely cross and turn through an intersection that has become increasingly busy, especially as greater commercial development has come to this part of Logan. The project will involve two phases. Pre-installation road maintenance and preparation will take place on Monday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 20. Most of this work will take place in the roadway median so motorists should be aware of lane restrictions or occasional closures between Golf Course Road and 1200 South on US 89-91. Once the pre-installation work is done, installation of the signal will move forward. It is estimated that it will become operational the first week in August. The second phase of the project involves the extension of the raised center median already in place on US-89/91.
