Franklin County’s lone elected Democrat retiring

The only elected Democrat in Franklin County, Idaho is calling it quits. Richard Umbel has served as Franklin County Assessor for 16 years and he ran for re-election in the May primary. Umbel says after the primary he made the difficult decision to retire when his present term expires at the end of this year. He says the decision was based on personal health concerns and family considerations. Umbel says he has thoroughly enjoyed the job and he believes he has one of the best staffs in the country. He will turn 65 before his term expires.
