Delinquent taxes up, federal money down in Franklin County

Delinquent taxes are on the increase in Franklin County. The delinquency rate jumped from five percent last year to eight percent this year. That gives county commissioners almost $200,000 less to work with. County Treasurer Jeanette McKay says the three percent increase amounts to $198,000. That is not the only bad budget news. According to the Preston Citizen, the county has learned that the federal money it gets in the form of Payment in Lieu of Taxes has dropped from $285,000 last year to $161,000. PILT money is what the federal government pays for Forest Service and BLM land.
