Corroon believes many fronts needed to fix immigration problems

When it comes to immigration, Salt Lake County Mayor and Democratic candidate for Governor Peter Corroon says the federal government has let us all down.On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday, Corroon said the federal government needs to come up with realistic solutions.”They need to tighten the borders,” Corroon said. “They need to come down hard on companies that are knowingly hiring undocumented workers. And then they need to come up with a system that is realistic and works.”Corroon also said that America relies on these people and needs to make the system more streamlined and efficient. “We need immigrant labor in this country, but we want people coming here legally,” he continued. “When it takes 10 to 20 years for somebody to come into this country legally, it’s no wonder people are going around the rules and coming here. People have family members who they want to get here.”Corroon says Salt Lake County was one of the first local governments to implement the E-Verify System which confirms the status of everyone who comes to work in the county. He says the state has not not come up with a way to enforce the E-Verify law. As for the Arizona law, Corroon says state government has not said how they would fund it or how they would make it work practically for the state of Utah.
