As the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Sam Granato is not only getting the support of Utah Democrats, but he says he has also found a lot of Republican moderates supporting him as well. At the Cache County Fair on Saturday, Granato said in order for the economy to improve small businesses need help. He says small businesses make up the bulk of the economy but the owners are frustrated and scared. “They are listening to too many doom sayers, if you will, and too many extremists,” Granto said. “The American dream is alive and well. We just need to get in, roll up our sleeves, and stand on common ground that we as Utahns know is here. We’re a more moderate state than we’re given credit for.” Granato says it is not the very rich who need the tax breaks but instead small business owners need some extra help. Granato says he is getting a lot of help from moderates like Frank Layden, Mac Christensen and now Jim Bennett, son of outgoing Republican U.S. Senator Bob Bennett, has joined the campaign.
