RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada athletic officials say the chance to bolt the Western Athletic Conference for the Mountain West was an offer they couldn’t refuse. School president Milton Glick told The Associated Press he is sorry WAC Commissioner Karl Benson and others are upset with the Wolf Pack. But he says his responsibility is to do what’s best for the university, the community and the state. Glick told AP on Thursday that based on the positive reaction from Nevada fans, he doesn’t know how he could have faced them if he’d turned down the invitation. He says he typically likes to nitpick over details but it would have been irresponsible to pass on the chance to reunite Nevada and rival UNLV in the same league for the first time in 15 years.
