TEMPE, Ariz. – Utah State outside hitter Liz McArthur was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Arizona State Sheraton Classic and libero Christine Morrill was named to the all-tournament team as Utah State won the tournament championship with victories against San Diego State (3-1), Seattle (3-2) and the host Sun Devils (3-0). McArthur, a junior from St. George, Utah (Snow Canyon HS) hit .357 (59-14-126) during the tournament and averaged 4.92 kills, 1.42 digs and 0.25 service aces per set. McArthur, who was also named the MVP of the Utah Classic last weekend, had 20 kills and 10 digs against SDSU, 22 kills and five digs against SU, and 17 kills against ASU. Morrill, a senior from Neola, Utah (Union HS), averaged 4.83 digs during the three matches, to go along with 0.42 assists and 0.25 service aces per set. She began the tournament with 26 digs against the Aztecs and then had 25 digs against the Redhawks before posting seven digs against the host Sun Devils. Utah State is 6-0 on the season and off to its best start since the 1979 national runner-up team won its first 11 matches. USU will return to action next weekend as it travels to Missoula, Mont., to compete in the Montana Invitational with Temple, North Dakota and the host Grizzlies. -USU-
