LOGAN, Utah With a 6-0 record and back-to-back tournament championships to start the 2010 season, Utah State¹s volleyball team is garnering some national attention as it received nine votes in this week¹s American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll to rank 32nd in the nation. Utah State is one of three teams from the Western Athletic Conference to be included in this week¹s poll as Hawai¹i is ranked sixth in the country and New Mexico State received seven votes to be ranked tied for 33rd. USU is also the only team from the state of Utah to receive at least two votes this week. Utah State began the 2010 season with wins against UC Davis (3-0) and Utah (3-1) to win the Utah Classic. USU then defeated Weber State (3-0) in its home opener before claiming the Arizona State Sheraton Classic with victories against San Diego State (3-1), Seattle (3-2) and the host Sun Devils (3-0). The last time a Utah State volleyball team received votes in the Top 25 poll was prior to the 2002 season when it was ranked 36th in the preseason. USU¹s 2000 team was ranked as high as 18th in the country and finished the year ranked 22nd, while the 2001 team finished the year ranked 21st as both teams advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Utah State travels to Missoula, Mont., this weekend to compete in the Montana Tournament along with North Dakota, Temple and the host Grizzlies. -USU-
