The federal government has recently released the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program income guidelines that will be effective through June 30, 2011. WIC is a nutrition education and supplemental food program available to women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or just had a baby and infants and children up to five years of age.Bonnie Farmer, Director of WIC for the Bear River Health Department, encourages anyone who feels they might qualify to contact her office. Farmer says moms and children throughout Cache, Rich and Box Elder counties enjoyed an exciting change this past year with newly-approved WIC food packages. She says the program added fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and baby foods to the food vouchers it distributes and there has been improved satisfaction among participants. Income guidelines remain the same.
