A fire destroyed one home and damaged another in a Smithfield trailer park Saturday afternoon. At approximately 4:45 p.m., fire units from Smithfield, North Logan, Logan and the Cache County Fire District were paged to the fire at 680 W. 100 North. According to Captain Mike Weibel of the Smithfield Fire Department, the trailer was 75-100 percent engulfed when crews arrived on scene. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze but not before it destroyed one trailer and damaged the exterior of an adjacent trailer. There were no injuries as a result, however a pet dog did perish in the flames. It is estimated that the fire caused approximately $60,000 in total damages to both trailers. Capt. Weibel says the cause of the fire remains under investigation and that Smithfield Assitant Chief Jeremy Hunt believes it appears to be accidental.
