A group seeking to help those who have lost a child in infancy is sponsoring an event this weekend in North Logan. A memorial for family and friends who have suffered a loss through infant death, stillbirth, or miscarriage is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elkridge Park (1100 East, 2500 North) in North Logan. This is the 13th year Share Parents has organized the event, which includes a balloon release. Craig and Sandra McAllister are in their eighth year chairing the event. “Many people who have suffered the death of an infant don’t have any place to remember their children,” said Craig McAllister. “Each year we have this memorial so parents and families can grow together and remember someone who was important to them.” McAllister said his family became involved with Share Parents, a national organization, after the loss of their infant son. “During that time there were some very nice ladies who came to the hospital to help us, especially my wife, in that grieving and mourning process. Since then we have become involved because we were touched by how they helped in a time of need.” Saturday’s event includes a Memorial Walk. “It’s a balloon release, really,” said Craig McAllister. “Lining the path, parents will put the name of the infants. As you are walking along you can see all of these real people who have passed away that mean something to families. We read the names at the very end and as each name is read the family is able to release a balloon. It’s a touching moment to see all those balloons floating away.” McAllister said Share Parents of Cache Valley/Box Elder/Preston invites everyone to join them Saturday. He said a light lunch would be served.
