Based on local public input, the federal government has come up with two additional alternatives for a multimillion dollar canal renovation project.Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon told the county council Tuesday that one new alternative is basically rebuilding the Logan Northern Canal back where it was originally.”Then the second one is to instead of having the point of diversion where it is currently they would have the point of diversion for the Logan, Hyde Park, Smithfield canal be below the first dam. So they would let the water flow through the first dam, and then they would pump it from there up to the canal,” Lemon said.Lemon said the county has been designated manager of the canal project and that means liability should be the most important priority. He said a meeting will soon be held where Cache County Water Manager Bob Fathering will explain the new alternatives further and give an update on other water projects.
