Idaho Board of Pharmacy moves to ban "spice"

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – The Idaho Board of Pharmacy has voted to banseven chemicals used to make incense that some people smoke to geta marijuana-like high.The temporary ban, which puts the chemicals into the samecategory as heroin and other illicit drugs, won’t go into effectunless it is signed by the governor. If signed, it will mean storescan’t sell the substance often called “Spice.” The ban would lastuntil the next legislative session ends – giving lawmakers a chanceto decide whether they want to make a law permanently banning thesubstance.Jan Atkinson, the senior compliance officer with the board, saidofficials with the Office of Drug Policy and the Idaho State Policeasked for the ban, saying that the substance posed a public healthrisk.
