UDOT realignment project to cause delays for Box Elder County commuters

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists that railroad crossing replacements on S.R. 83 and S.R. 13 in Corinne, originally scheduled for late September, are now underway and will impact travel on this heavily used route to ATK Space Systems, and the Walmart and Proctor & Gamble complexes in western Box Elder County for the next week. This work is the final phase of UDOT’s S.R. 83/S.R. 13 Realignment Project that began in the summer of 2009. Originally scheduled to begin Monday, September 27, the work was delayed until October 19, and will continue until the two Corinne crossings have been replaced. Railroad crews will replace the highway crossing on the Union Pacific Malad Subdivision at the Thiokol Spur on S.R. 13, as well as the UP Malad Subdivision crossing on the new S.R. 83/S.R. 13 alignment (the main highway to ATK) just west of the old highway split in Corinne. This work is expected to take about a week. To expedite this work, traffic has been restricted on the S.R. 13/83 alignment, and a detour route has been established for westbound traffic. This detour will be in place each day, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., during the remainder of the work to replace the main crossing immediately west of Corinne. The detour will work in the following manner: * WESTBOUND TRAFFIC: Traffic normally bound for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Procter & Gamble and ATK Space Systems, as well as local residents and agricultural users will detour north on the old S.R. 13 alignment to the new S.R. 13 roadway. They will then turn left, and proceed south along S.R. 13, before proceeding west again on S.R. 83. * EASTBOUND TRAFFIC: Traffic east-bound from the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Procter & Gamble and ATK Space Systems, as well as local residents and agricultural users, will continue east on S.R. 83 through the crossing under construction. Flaggers may be present, so motorists should slow down, approach this work area cautiously, and proceed only as directed by flaggers, or by following traffic control devices placed in the roadway. Motorists with time sensitive travel may want to consider alternate routes. Industrial truck traffic west of the S.R. 13/83 crossing may consider using the Iowa String Road (6800 West) north to S.R. 102 (Tremonton Main Street), where I-15/I-84 can be easily accessed in either direction.Once this work is complete, the S.R. 83/S.R. 13 Realignment Project will be finished.
