The top teams in Region 5 finished their seasons with strong performances on both sides of the ball. Box Elder defeated Ogden 49-0, Logan defeated Bonneville 35-0 and Mountain Crest defeated valley rival Sky View 38-6.With each of the top three teams in Region 5 finishing the final game of the season in dominating fashion, it creates a three-way tie at the top. A coin toss was conducted before Thursday night’s games to determine the order in case of this three-way tie. For the third time in recent years Mountain Crest has won that coin toss, now heading in to the playoffs as the number one seed from the region. Box Elder is number two with Logan number three.

The Sky View Bobcats were completely romped on the road Thursday night at Mountain Crest, as they narrowly avoided a shutout by scoring on the last play of the game to lose 38-6.The Mustangs started off a little slow against the Bobcats, only scoring 6 points in the first quarter, but soon found their rhythm despite many penalties on both sides. Mountain Crest managed to get a touchdown late in the second quarter to bring the score to 21-0 and received the ball in the second half. At the start of the 4th Quarter, Mountain Crest sealed Sky View’s fate with another score, bringing the score at that point to 35-0, enacting the mercy rule. Alex Kuresa led the Mustang offense by passing for four TD’s, and running for another. The Mustangs also kicked their first FG of the season, a 37 yarder. Sky View was unable to get anything going all night long, as they did not score until the last play of the game, with a TD pass from Nick Carver to Jordan Hill. The loss to MC means that the Bobcats season is now over, and Mountain Crest will enter the state playoffs as the number one seed from Region Five.
