Healthier county employees may mean pay increases

The 2011 budget has yet to be finalized but Cache County Executive Lynn Lemon says it looks like the money is there for a small increase in pay for county workers and elected officials as well.Lemon told council members last night he was pleasantly surprised to learn insurance costs went up by only 4.7 percent this year.”Due to all the additional coverage and requirements we have for pre-existing conditions, for prevention and a number of things that are included in the national health care legislation,” Lemon said, “we were hearing that we would have premium increases somewhere between 15-30%. “So for us to get a 4.7% increase, to me, was an indication that I think that our Apple program is working. Our people are working hard to try to be healthier.” The Apple program is the county’s wellness program as designed by the Human Resources Department. Lemon’s budget calls for one new part-time employee for human resources and two part-time workers for the county attorney’s office.
