Lewiston school to celebrate Blue Ribbon status

Friday is celebration time at the Lewiston Elementary School, which was recently named a 2010 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Principal Adam Baker says a Blue Ribbon Celebration Assembly will be held at 1:15 p.m. at the school and everyone is invited. Baker says parents, district and state school officials will be attending, along with Miss Utah Christina Lowe. The award is to give recognition to schools whose students have achieved and attained high levels of performance. Baker, who says he’s proud of every one of his students, has been at Lewiston Elementary for five years “I love it,” Baker says. “The kids are great. The parents are so supportive. We’re out here, a little bit more rural than down in Logan but the kids are really superb. “The kids work hard, they try hard. We care about our school. Everybody here does, the teachers, the staff, kids and parents.” Baker says the students are extremely excited about their “Pay It Forward” program where they have each earned one dollar to purchase books that will be shipped to Uganda, Africa to be presented as gifts to students at orphanages and schools there.
