Peter Breinholt Christmas Concert benefits local program

Popular Utah songwriter and musician Peter Breinholt is bringing his Christmas program to Logan Saturday. In fact, Breinholt is presenting two concerts, one at 4 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. in the Utah State University Performance Hall, both as a benefit for a Bear River Health program called “Transitions.” Kevin Winn, who helps run the relatively-new program, says Breinholt has been extremely supportive of Transitions which is a new group program of Bear River Mental Health. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday, Winn said most programs serve the severely mentally ill but Transitions is a new approach serving another group of people. “There are those who do come for therapy and medication management that also could use group services,” Winn said. “So Transitions is rightly-named so, so people can get back out into society, be able to get back out in the community vocationally, educationally, socially, get reconnected with family and be able to reconnect their community-based life.” Two participants in the program, Tara Hawkins and Julie Ann Larsen, said the program has changed their lives for the better and they have high praise for Peter Breinholt, for his talent and his support. Larsen additionally said Transitions has meant everything to her. “As far as mental illness, I’ve suffered from it since early adulthood,” she explained. “I just have not been able to find a group of people who understand where I’m coming from and are so supportive. “We bond, we have a peer group where we bond, we make friends and learn things together. It has just meant the world to me.” Larsen says Peter Breinholt is one of her favorite artists and he has been incredibly generous to the group. Proceeds from the concert will help pay for activities the Transitions group can participate in and benefit from. Tickets are $10 and Winn says they can be purchased at the box office, the Taggart Student Center or the door.
