Genetic testing reveals wolf-dog hybrid killed near Preston

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) – State officials say genetic testing has confirmed that an animal that killed a lamb in eastern Idaho and was then shot and killed by a sheepherder last summer was a wolf-dog hybrid.Idaho Department of Fish and Game spokeswoman Jennifer Jackson tells the Idaho State Journal in a story published Saturday that the animal definitely had wolf in it but that one of its parents was a purebred German shepherd.The department says the 94-pound male wolf-hybrid was killed east of Preston on July 6. The report also notes the animal had worn hair on its neck where a collar might have been at one time.
