Logan council gives unanimous support to immigration resolution

Logan’s Municipal Council Tuesday night gave unanimous support to the Utah Compact. The Utah Compact urges Utah’s congressional delegation and others to lead efforts to adopt reasonable policies addressing immigrants in Utah. The resolution was proposed by new council chairman Herm Olsen who will describe the compact Wednesday on KVNU’s Crosstalk show at 9:10 a.m.In supporting the resolution, councilmember Dean Quayle says he would never want to see another Immigration Services raid on the Hyrum meat packing plant, which proved disastrous to families. Councilwoman Holly Daines also spoke up about the resolution.”I think it’s also just interesting the (Salt Lake) Tribune has been doing a series of articles exploring the fact, do illegal immigrants commit more crimes than the average population,” she said. “Again, they really debunk that notion.”Olsen said he has discussed the resolution with Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen who had no problem with the council’s position.
