Latino family day at USU encourages participants to ‘dream big’

“Dream Big at Utah State University.” That is the theme for the second annual Latino Family Day hosted by the Utah State University Access and Diversity Center.The event will be held Saturday, Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center ballroom. Latino Family Day is an opportunity for the university to reach out to the Latino community, giving students and parents the chance to spend time on campus and to experience college life as a student.The day is designed to help parents learn about opportunities that exist for their students and inform families on making higher education affordable. Activities include workshops about admissions, financial aid and scholarships.Students will also compete in hands-on competition for prizes. Latino Family Day is free and includes free Aggie Shuttle Bus transportation. Child care is provided for children one to nine years of age. During the provided lunch, motivational keynote speaker Judge Andrew Valdez, from the Third District Juvenile Court in Salt Lake City, will deliver a message to the audience.
