A Utah Highway Patrol trooper and car was struck Monday morning in Box Elder County at approximately 5:05 a.m. while handling one of several crashes on I-15. The accident occurred at milepost 354 northbound in the median. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, as the trooper was sitting in his patrol car doing the accident report, a dispatched tow-truck was arriving on scene and was slowing down to pull into the median area. As the tow-truck was slowing down, another vehicle was coming up from behind at a speed too fast for the conditions. The vehicle hit the tow-truck which, in turn, sent the tow-truck towards and into the back end of the trooper’s patrol car. The UHP trooper received minor injuries to his back and was transported to an area hospital by his supervisor. No other injuries were reported.
