LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball players Brady Jardine and Tyler Newbold were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team it was announced Thursday. Jardine and Newbold join Nedeljko Golubovic of Fresno State as the only players from the Western Athletic Conference to earn academic all-district honors. The Aggie duo is also the only players from the state of Utah recognized. Newbold is earning academic all-district honors for the second straight year, while Jardine is receiving the award for the first time. Along with being academic all-district recipients, Newbold is also a three-time academic all-WAC honoree, while Jardine has earned academic all-WAC honors twice. Jardine, a 6-7, 220-pound junior forward from Twin Falls, Idaho (Twin Falls HS), has a cumulative 3.71 grade-point average in finance. On the season, he is averaging 8.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.26 blocks per game, while shooting 56.0 percent from the field and 63.9 percent at the free throw line. Jardine currently ranks second in the WAC in blocked shots, third in rebounding and fourth in overall shooting. Newbold, a 6-5, 210-pound senior guard from Payson, Utah (Payson HS), has a cumulative 3.45 grade-point average in public relations. On the season, he is averaging 6.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, while shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from three-point range and 73.0 percent at the free throw line. He also currently ranks second in the nation with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.79. The academic all-district team was selected by members of CoSIDA from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and the Canadian province of British Columbia. Academic nominees must be at least a sophomore academically, contribute as a starter or significant reserve and maintain at least a 3.30 overall grade point average. Jardine and Newbold will now be placed on the national ballot with the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America team being announced later this season.-USU-
