Hilton and Howard Set Utah State Distance Records

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State junior Ruth Hilton ran herself to the top of the Aggie records book in the women’s indoor 3000m at the Flotrack Husky Classic on Saturday. Hilton ran a 9:47.48 to finish 39th out 81 runners, giving her the USU record and the Western Athletic Conference season-best time. Joining Hilton in the record books at the Flotrack Husky Classic was fellow junior Daniel Howell, who ran a school-record time in the men’s 5000m (14:11.62). Junior Kim Quinn also ran well in the women’s 5000m ranking second all-time with a time of 17:06.22. In Nampa, Idaho the Utah State men and women’s track and field teams finished day two of the Boise State Team Challenge at the Jacksons Indoor Track, capturing eight events. Leading the charge was senior Clint Silcock as he won his fifth high jump title of the season clearing 7-02.25 (2.19m) to stay undefeated on the year. Also finishing in first-place for USU was senior Armahd Lewis with his career-best and WAC season-best time in the 60m (6.79). He also won the 200m, crossing the line at 21.79. Freshman Devin Lang won the mile (4:13.10) just three seconds faster than junior Aaron Clements, who finished in third (4:16.45). Junior Philip Noble took the top spot in the heptathlon 60m with his career-best time of 7.29, but did not compete in the 1000m of the heptathlon to get a total score. Winning events for the Aggie women were junior Katelyn Heiner in the 400m (55.81), freshman Hannah Williams in the mile (5:02.07) and junior Sonia Grabowska in the pole vault with a jump of 13-03.50 (4.05m). Utah State had two men and seven women finish second in their event in Nampa, including Eric Follett in the high jump with a mark of 6-06.25 (1.99m) and Sam Hawkins in the 1000m of the hepathlon (2:47.69). Hawkins finished the heptathlon with 3,810 points, placing ninth. Finishing in second for the women was sophomore Aubrie Haymore in the 400m (56.18), junior Jessie Chugg in the 800m (2:17.00), sophomore Alex Litzsinger in the 3000m (10:12.96), sophomore Sam Nielson in the triple jump (38-05.00 [11.71m]), junior Spela Hus in the shot put (45-06.50 [13.88m]), senior Lindsey Spencer in the weight throw (57-08.50 [17.59m]) and freshman Candace Moyes in the high jump (5-03.00 [1.60m]). Overall, USU won nine events in the two-day meet hosted by WAC-foe Boise State. Utah State will return to Jacksons Indoor Track on Feb. 23-26, for the WAC Indoor Championships.
